In art history we learn that the earliest physical church plan was modeled after the Roman basilica. When I learned this it made total sense that the authoritarian structure and forceful imposition of beliefs that arose in the church when it obtained power were also modeled on the pattern of the Roman empire, not the Bible. Even the reformers were not immune from this thinking. It took centuries before the tolerant practices taught by Jesus became mainstream in the churches.

This video is biased and although refereeing to real events neglects to mention a lot of key points and similarities between Islam and Christianity. I just recently finished a course in history and when it came to Islam, from what I understood, they are both following fairly similar religious teachings. Both Jesus and Mohammed are prophets in their own right and unfortunately, both their teachings have come to create Frankensteins. Both Jesus and Mohammed value kindness, virtue, honesty and patience. Now, look what they have done. The Spanish conquistadors, destroyed the aztec, mayan and inca civs in the name of god while in Europe pagan people and books where both burned and executed or forcibly converted. Islam has also engaged in similar activity, but never on the level of Christianity and the Catholic church. The Catholic Christianity has altered what was originally good morals in name of expansion and conversion. Ask yourself this, does the means justify the end? If not, then to what end? The Crusades is a small part of Christian destruction and persecution of pagan people some of which believe in the teaching of Jesus but in a slightly different way. From looking at all this, its no more than insanity and calling it awesome is equally insane.

I found the crusades and Muslim golden age as just normal for the time, like capturing territory and slave trade was normal, both were just as barbaric as each other which is why when the rare moments of mercy and honour happened they became legendary and defined the war, But long story short I like the crusaders cause it's just a cool era to look into and how unique they were the crusaders were.

Ok man, I was interested in learning something but this video is so heavily biased. This is a very manipulative way of depicting history, and i will explain why. The first point i want to address is the one with slaves. This is a manipulation in which you are mass generalizing the instances that have happened in world history under one word and depicting as of they were the same, even though they are not. The western slavery, which how you westerners percieve the word “slavery” as,is a form of slavery in which 1. The motivation of enslavement is based on racial differences such as skin color, thus seeing them as “lower race”, thus seeing it justified to treat them as properties. 2. There is no way of escaping slavery for the slave. 3. The western white man walked into a village in africa with his crew and captured them to then sell. Whereas the story with islamic slavery is very different. Some crucial points are 1. The islamic slaves, also know as Milk al Yamin are war captives. So they were people who came to kill muslims to begin with. It is a form of punishment for the Milk al Yamin, and it is very different than going into a village and just enslaving an innocent soul that didn’t mean to harm you anyways. It is STIRCTLY forbidden to go into a city, that lies in the lands you newly conquered, and enslave no combatants that didn’t mean any harm to muslims. Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) said: “Allah says, 'I will be against three persons on the Day of Resurrection: […]One who sells a free person (as a slave) and eats the price’” 2. The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) said: “So feed them (your captives) with the food you eat, clothe them with the same clothes you wear, and do not burden them with so much that they are overwhelmed; If you burden them, help them.” Source: Sunan ibn Majah 3690 There is absolutely no instance in which the white man was forced by his own laws to feed his slave with the food he eats, with the clothes he wears, not to overburden his slave and help him with the work if he overburdens his slave. It is infact the exact opposite. It is a quite known fact the black slaves of USA were working more than 14 hours a day in plantations such as cotton plantations, were HEAVILY segregated from their owners. White man had his own food, from which he didnt feed his slave, had his own cloth, with he didnt clothe his slave, and physically segregated himself from his slaves, which made slaves even ENTERING “white places”, and this is a very wide known fact. 3. Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) said: “He who slaps his captive or beats him, the expiation for it is that he should set the him free”. Source: Sahih Muslim 1657A It is not like how you are trying to represent it, as if it were like the atlantic slavery, which enabled the white man to beat, hit, whip his slave as he likes and treat his slave as if he were a human animal. 4. The Milk al Yamin can go free by ransoming themselves. In fact Allah (God) orders(or you could say recommends) in the Holy Quran that the owner of the slave should help him to become free by giving his slave FROM HIS OWN WEALTH. Allah says in the Holy Quran(24:33) “And the ones your right hand possess(Milk il Yamin) Who seek the book(Contract of Emancipation), then contract them (accordingly), In case you know that they are in charitable circumstances, and bring them of the wealth of Allah that has brought you.” 5. The idea of Milk al Yamin is not inherited. It is, again, not like the slave trade, which forced to descendants of slaves to being slaves 6. In the Holy Quran Allah commands his Creation to free Milk al Yamin. Allah says in The Holy Quran (90:11-13) “If only they had attempted the challenging path (of goodness instead)! And what will make you realize what (attempting)the challenging path is? It is to free a slave.” 7. In Islam a way to expiate a sin is to free a slave. Allah says in the Holy Quran(5:89): “The penalty for a broken oath is to feed ten poor people from what you normally feed your own family, or to clothe them, or to free a bondsperson( Milk al Yamin, slave)” There are still roughly 10 million coptic christians living in egypt. So this idea of muslims opressing christians everywhere they go and opress them heavily with the “Dhimmi Tax” which is called “Jizya” is just a straight up lie. Jizya was for every working age MAN and it was 1 Dinar a year. 1 Dinar was worth a sheep. A sheep costs between 250-300$ in the US. The Tax rate in the US is on the contorary 52%. What sounds more like opression? Freedom of religion and belief is a right which Islam guarantees, Allah Almighty says (Let there be no compulsion in religion.) (Al-Baqarah 2:256). The Non-Muslims paying jizya were exempt from military service, and didn’t have to fight for muslims in times of war. All opinions adopted in the Hanafi school assure that no temple, church, or other place of worship can be destroyed. The Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi`i, and Hanbali scholars all state that dhimmis (non-Muslims living under the protection of a Muslim state) must not be forbidden from repairing their churches, temples, and other places of worship, because forbidding them from doing so would lead to the destruction of these places. Thus, the ruin of these places takes the same ruling as destroying them. In addition, Shehab Ad-Deen Al-Qarafi, the Maliki jurist, stated the following: “The covenant of protecting dhimmis imposes upon Muslims certain obligations towards them. They are our neighbors, under our shelter and protection upon the guarantee of Allah, His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the religion of Islam. By doing so, we will be honoring the Covenant of Allah and His Messenger. To hand him/her over to the enemy would mean that we were negligent of the Covenant of Allah and His Messenger.” Churches were not often shut down, that is a straight up lie. Give a reliable historical source for such practice. Blaming christians’ inability to advance in science, technology and art during the years 600-1000 AD on muslims, and saying muslims’ advancement in science,technology and arts in this time span came in the expense of christians is just straight up bullshit. You have absolutely 0 logical basis for this claim of yours. Your word choice is also very manipulative such as “It conquered,burned and enslaved it’s way through multiple christian cities”. Without humanism and archeology based understanding of truth, history would be nothing but a bunch of tall tales and lies. All religions screwed around with the origin stories a little too much. The fact that I'm not a serf and can watch this video and comment on it is the proof that we have put aside some stupid beliefs and institutions for good.
